Dowty Propellers is a world-leading manufacturer of propeller systems that are used on commercial and military turboprop aircraft around the world—including the regional airliners Dash 8-400 and Fokker 50 and the military airlifter, the C130J Hercules. Around half of our business activity supports national air forces across the globe.
With a Gloucestershire heritage dating back over 80 years, Dowty’s original propellers (made from wood) were used on such iconic aircraft as the Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane. In later years, we pioneered the introduction of all-composite propeller blades that combined low weight and high strength with resistance to fatigue and corrosion. Today, we are integrally involved in developing the sustainable future of aviation and the quest for lower emissions and reduced levels of noise and fuel consumption.
At Dowty Propellers, we continually invest in advanced materials research, production capabilities, modelling tools and our future workforce. We are one of the biggest employers of engineering talent in the area and we offer several different apprenticeship schemes—craft, business, degree and postgraduate. We recognise the valuable role that apprentices play in our own company. By injecting young talent into our experienced workforce, we benefit from new ideas and approaches, fill skills gaps and achieve a balanced, diverse team.
